todayApril 20, 2026

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and National Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the party, urging leaders to intensify reconciliation efforts as it prepares for future elections.

Speaking at the 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party at Wadata House in Abuja, Wike acknowledged the existence of internal challenges but stressed the need for unity and healing.

He said, “whatever happens, we will continue to live as members of the People’s Democratic Party. I know in life there must be a period of crisis. My advice is we will not stop at reconciliation.”

He further called on the party leadership to constitute a strong reconciliation committee to engage aggrieved members, noting that the party still has the capacity to regain their trust.

According to him, “Chairman and your team, make sure you put up a strong committee that will go ahead and talk to those who are infected. There is room for them to come back, if you go and talk to them, I believe they will support this party again.”

Reiterating his personal loyalty, Wike declared, “And on my own part, I assure you, I will continue to support the party. I will continue to be a part. Since 1998, I have been a member of the PDP and I will not leave the party.”

He added that successful reconciliation efforts would ultimately strengthen the party’s image and cohesion.

In his remarks, the PDP National Chairman, Abdul-Rahmam Mohammed Takushere expressed optimism about the party’s future, assuring members that stability had returned.

He stated that, “The era of uncertainty is behind us, PDP is set to conduct credible election to the aspirations of yearning members.”

He also urged members to remain focused as the 2027 general election approaches, emphasizing unity and collective purpose.

The PDP Chairman further commended security agencies for their professionalism and thanked party members for their resilience during challenging times.

On his part, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa
stressed that unity must remain the party’s guiding principle.

He called on members to reconcile differences, strengthen internal mechanisms, and prioritize the collective interest of the party over personal ambitions.

Senator Ohuabunwa also commended Wike for what he described as his visionary leadership and urged members to work together with a shared purpose.

Speaking on behalf of State party leaders, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu acknowledged the challenges faced across various states but expressed gratitude for the party’s progress.

He lauded Wike’s contributions and highlighted the ongoing e-registration exercise, describing it as successful while encouraging members nationwide to support the party leadership in achieving electoral victories.

The NEC meeting underscored a renewed commitment to unity, reconciliation, and organizational strengthening as the PDP positions itself for future political contests.
