NBA Election : NAJUC Calls For Caution, Amicable Resolution

todayJuly 16, 2026

Background

The National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, Abuja, has watched with keen interest, controversies surrounding the upcoming election of new National Officers for the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.

Some Stakeholders in the nation’s Judiciary have been divided over the election scheduled to hold on July 18, 2026.

A statement issued in Abuja, by the Chairman of the association Comrade Olakunle Olasanmi said while some are of the view that the election should be suspended, others feel there should be no going back on the planned timetable and arrangements for the election.

“As stakeholders in the Judiciary and media practitioners, who have covered the activities of the Judiciary in the country for many years, the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, is using this opportunity to call for caution and also call on “warring” factions to harmonize positions and allow the rule of law to prevail.

“NAJUC, as an association is calling on parties to come to a roundtable and allow for amicable resolution of whatever issue that is threatening to tear the association apart in the overall interest of the legal profession.”

The statement emphasized that NBA, as a body has distinguished itself as a beacon of hope to Nigerians and has earned the respect of Nigerians, hence the controversy should not be allowed to linger and snowball into something that will get out of hand.

It stressed that over the years, the Judiciary has been, and still remains the advocate of the Rule of Law hence there should be no exception to that, when it comes to conducting its own affairs.

“Therefore, we are calling on all parties involved to allow the Rule of Law to prevail and avoid whatever could tear the association apart and put the good name it had earned over the years into disrepute.”

“We are calling on a Legal Icon in the country, Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, and other LEADERS of the Bar and people of GOOD CONSCIENCE to intervene and put this matter to rest once and for all and conduct a FREE, FAIR and CREDIBLE elections to elect the next National Officers that will preside over the affairs of the association for the next two years.”
