The Labour Party, LP, has dismissed reports alleging that it failed to submit the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the closure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Ken Eluma Asogwa, in Abuja.
The statement describes the reports as false, misleading and aimed at creating confusion among its members and supporters.
It explains that it successfully uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates ahead of the July 14, 2026 deadline set by INEC.
According to the statement, the names of the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates were uploaded on July 10, four days before the closure of the nomination portal, in full compliance with INEC guidelines.
The statement expresses concern over what it described as the publication of unverified reports allegedly based on information from anonymous sources within INEC, stressing that proper verification should have been sought from the party leadership.
It notes that INEC’s forthcoming publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 General Election would confirm that its candidates names were duly submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
The statement, therefore, urges members, supporters and the general public to disregard the reports, insisting that they were part of attempts to undermine its growing popularity and political momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
It maintains that the allegations had no factual basis and would be dispelled once INEC releases the final list of candidates.
