Unity Cup: Femi Azeez Bags Brace In Debut For Super Eagles

todayMay 26, 2026

Background

Femi Azeez capped off his debut for the Super Eagles with a brace that saw Nigeria emerge 2-0 victorious over Zimbabwe in the 2026 Unity Cup on Tuesday.

The match, played at The Valley in London, saw Eric Chelle’s side take control of the game with an early goal from the Millwall F.C. forward just five minutes in to hand them the lead. However, despite the early advantage, the defending Unity Cup champions were unable to capitalize on subsequent chances, and the first half ended 1-0.

Coming back from the break, it was end-to-end action as the Warriors tried to draw level. However, debutant goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo proved to be up to the task, commanding his defensive line with confidence.

In the 65th minute, Terem Moffi burst into the box before squaring the ball to Azeez, who calmly slotted it home for his second of the night, effectively putting the game to rest.

Super Eagles march on to unity cup final

The victory sees Nigeria maintains its historic unbeaten streak in the mini-tournament as they successfully launch the defense of their Unity Cup title.

Eric Chelle’s men now advance directly to the final, where they will face the winner of the semi-final match between Jamaica and India as they eye a consecutive tournament crown.
