Researchers advocating for increased funding in research-oriented courses for tackling contemporary issues in Nigeria have emphasized the importance of applying mathematical concept in problem-solving techniques.
They made the call at the end of a two-week research workshop in Abuja on Dynamics organized by the National Mathematical Centre for postgraduates in the country.
Speaking at the event, the Director General national mathematical centre, Professor Promise Mebine, represented by Professor Benjamin Oyelami, underscored the Centre’s dedication to cultivating a robust research team in dynamics and modeling to address challenges such as security and climate change.
He further stated that the Center has historically trained numerous postgraduates and young researchers across various fields, with the potential to translate their training into practical problem-solving tools for national development, with adequate funding.
Also speaking the Coordinator of the Mathematics Programme, commended participants for their dedication and announced plans to publish the results of the research-oriented courses in mathematical journals.
He explained that plans are also underway to organize further research-oriented courses to deepen understanding of dynamical systems.
He thanked the management of the National Mathematical Centre for supporting these high-level research initiatives.
The research workshop attracted participants from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
