The Defence Headquarters says it is investigating a video clip in circulation across social media of some soldiers engaging with bandits somewhere in Katsina State.
This is contained in a statement by the Director Defence Information,
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in Abuja.
According to the statement the investigation to confirm the authenticity of the video as regards the soldiers seen in uniform is ongoing.
The statement maintains that it is aware of the resolve of some bandits to repent and hand over their weapons to the authority, which is yeilding good results and in progress.
It also stresses that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa assures Nigerians that the Armed Forces will engage in every lawful means possible to ensure peace and stability reign in the nation.
According to the. statement, the Defence Headquarters explains that it is a non-kinetic measure aimed at restoration of peace, with several bandits and other criminal elements surrendering to the authority.
The statement says Government at all levels are encouraged to allow bandits genuinely willing to surrender to do so while the window is still open.
It also explains that the Defence Headquarters is doing everything possible to restore peace and tranquility all over the country and urges all citizens to remain calm and be law abiding.
