NBA Elects Second Female President, Badejo Okunsanya

Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been elected as the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Badejo-Okusanya emerged as the second female president of the Association since 1960 in spite of the controversy surrounding the conduct of the election.

The election has been enmeshed in controversy following allegations and counter allegations of a series of ploys to circumvent the election process in a favour of a predetermined presidential candidate.

According to the report the poll, which also produced other members of the National Executive of the Association, was conducted via electronic voting.

A lawyer and Human Rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the election of the new president in a post on his verified Facebook Page.

Over 82,000 eligible voters were accredited for the online election.

The result sighted on “real time voters’ dashboard for the 2026 NBA national elections,” showed that Badejo-Okusanya, as at 9:20pm on Saturday night, led the other two presidential candidates with 11,206 votes which is 46:62% of the total votes cast for the presidential category.

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN) was following with 7,335 (30:51 %) while Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) had 5,498 (22:87%).

Dame Priscilla Olabori Kuye was the first female president of NBA between 1991 and 1992.
