President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Of Senegal Elected ECOWAS Chairman

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of the Republic of Senegal has been elected as the new Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

His election was announced at the conclusion of the ECOWAS Summit of regional leaders, where he was unanimously endorsed to lead the West African regional bloc.

President Faye who succeeds the outgoing Chairman is expected to steer the Authority’s efforts toward strengthening regional integration, peace, security, democratic governance and economic cooperation among member states.

The announcement was confirmed by the Spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
