Court Adjourns Gabam’s Alleged N35m Fraud Case

The alleged N35 million fraud case involving former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Gabam, has been adjourned to August 17 by a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court in Abuja.

The case, instituted by the SDP, borders on alleged criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and theft of party funds during Gabam’s tenure as national chairman.

Speaking after the matter was adjourned, SDP National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, said proceedings could not continue because the court did not sit.

According to him, the party’s legal team and officials of Zenith Bank, who were subpoenaed to provide the party’s bank statements, were present in court before learning of the adjournment.

Professor Gombe described the bank documents as crucial evidence and expressed optimism that they would be tendered when the case resumes.

He also alleged that the party discovered questionable financial transactions in its 2024 records, including multiple payments to an individual who was neither a financial officer nor a contractor of the party.

The SDP chairman said the party remained confident that justice would prevail and called for speedy determination of cases involving alleged financial misconduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On the party’s leadership dispute, Gombe maintained that the National Executive Committee had validly suspended and expelled Gabam, insisting that the party’s current leadership remains intact.
