Wike To Revoke Titles Of Event Centres With Links To Illegal Organizations

todayMay 29, 2026

Background

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has warned owners of Event Centres, hotels, and other public facilities in the Territory against allowing their premises to be used by illegal organizations.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike.

According to the statement, land allocations within the FCT are strictly meant for lawful activities, stressing that henceforth, title documents of any event centre, hotel, or public building found hosting gatherings of illegal organizations would be revoked.

The FCTA explained that the directive became necessary in view of ongoing efforts to strengthen security of lives and property in the nation’s capital and to support security agencies in maintaining peace and order across the territory.

It added that the activities and usage of Event Centres, hotels, and other public facilities would now be closely monitored to ensure they are not used for meetings or gatherings capable of disrupting public peace or threatening security.

Owners of such facilities were therefore advised to verify the legality of organizations seeking to use their premises and to also properly ascertain the purpose of every gathering before approving bookings.

The Administration particularly cautioned operators in this political season to ensure that they only transact with leaderships of political parties officially recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while also maintaining proper records of all transactions.

The statement warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract sanctions, including revocation of title documents of affected properties.
