Labour Party Reschedules 2027 Primaries To May 30

todayMay 21, 2026

Background

The Labour Party has rescheduled its 2027 primary election earlier fixed for May 27 and May 29 to Saturday, May 30, 2026.

This is contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa in Abuja.

According to the statement, the governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries earlier scheduled for May 27, alongside the presidential and National Assembly primaries fixed for May 29, will now hold on the same day.

The statement explains that the adjustment followed the coincidence of the earlier dates with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration and activities marking the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across the country.

It states that the decision was taken to allow party members, aspirants, supporters, and other Nigerians to observe the religious and national events.

The statement expresses regret over any inconvenience the change in schedule might cause stakeholders and aspirants.

It also appeals for understanding and cooperation from members and the general public ahead of the rescheduled primaries.
