Member representing
Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, in the House of Representatives, Mr Leke Abejide, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, citing internal crises, legal disputes and leadership uncertainty within the party.
Mr Abejide, who announced his resignation during a media briefing in Abuja, described it as “painful but necessary” to safeguard his political future.
The Lawmaker said he had consulted widely with political allies and supporters before deciding to leave the party and align with a new political platform, though he did not formally name it.
He said his exit followed months of tension within the ADC, including a legal battle he initiated in 2025 against key party figures.
He said the case, which he sought to be heard on an accelerated basis, was repeatedly delayed due to actions by opposing parties.
According to Abejide, the delays prompted his legal advisers to recommend that he consider an alternative political platform, especially as the 2027 election cycle approaches.

He also cited leadership challenges within the party, alleging that the ADC lacks duly recognized national officers required to validate nomination processes for candidates.
Abejide further accused some party stakeholders of attempting to sideline long-standing members who have contested elections under the ADC since 2019.
The lawmaker, who said he played a significant role in building the party’s structure, maintained that his decision followed extensive consultations with political allies and constituents.
He dismissed reports that he was expelled from the party, insisting that his exit was voluntary and in line with the ADC constitution.
Abejide also addressed a viral video involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, said remarks attributed to him were made in a lighthearted context and misinterpreted.
Abejide, while expressing support for the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
added that his political structure remains intact and that he would continue to pursue his ambitions on a new platform.
