The Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF Senator George Akume has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC to come up with reforms that will improve enforcement, enhance emergency rescue response for reduction in road crashes and effective traffic management in the country.
Addressing the opening of the FRSC 2026 first quarter, Corps Marshal strategic session with Senior Officers in Abuja, Senator George Akume said the Federal Government was aware that the operating environment was becoming increasingly complex with rising vehicular density and evolving road user behaviour.
Represented by the Director of Legal, General Services Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mrs Kamil Kide, the SGF urged the FRSC management to sustain investment in training which would produce technically competent personnel with integrity and discipline for efficient service delivery
According to the SGF, FRSC is a critical institution of Government in delivering safe and effective road management for economic activities and national mobility.
“There is the need for the corps to intensify the deployment of technology driven solutions, strengthen Data analytics, adopt intelligence led enforcement and enhance transparency in its operations.”
Senator George Akume Reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s support to all initiatives towards repositioning the Corps for greater efficiency.
” As the supervisory authority, the OSGF remains committed to providing the policy support and coordination required for the Corps to effectively deliver on its mandate.”
He commended the inclusive participation at the strategic session which brought together management staff, Zonal and Sector Commanding officers including heads of training institutions.
Earlier the FRSC Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed called on commanding officers to ensure strict enforcement against speeding, mix-loading, and other major traffic violations responsible for road crashes in the country.
“Speeding remains one of the leading causes of road traffic crashes, alongside the dangerous practice of articulated vehicles carrying both passengers and goods.”
According to him, the strategy session provides an opportunity for the Corps’ leadership to “review performance, identify operational gaps, and develop practical, forward-looking solutions” to enhance road safety nationwide.
Mallam Shehu Mohammed commended officers and men of the Corps for their dedication and resilience, describing their efforts as instrumental to the progress recorded so far.
He however urged them to remain focused and committed to achieving greater results.
He also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration with stakeholders as effective traffic management requires coordinated implementation of policies and strategies.
