Reports Linking NNPP To Opposition Parties Summit Misleading – Major

todayApril 27, 2026

Background

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has formally dissociated itself from the recently concluded opposition parties summit held in Ibadan, declaring that the party neither participated in nor authorised any individual to represent it at the gathering.

The national chairman, Dr Agbo Major made this known while speaking at a world press conference in Abuja.

The National Chairman said reports linking the NNPP to the coalition meeting were misleading and should be disregarded.

“The NNPP as a registered political party wishes to categorically distance itself from the just concluded opposition parties summit held in Ibadan by the coalition group which is being reported in the media.”

Dr. Major further stressed that the party had no official presence at the meeting.

“Let it be clearly stated that none of the recognised leaders of our great party attended that gathering, nor was the party represented in any official capacity.”

According to him, the attendance of some expelled former members should not be mistaken for party endorsement or participation.

“The presence of notable faces of our expelled members should not be misconstrued to mean membership of our great party in the coalition” He added,

The NNPP chairman warned coalition leaders to verify those claiming to act on behalf of the party.

“We therefore call on the leadership of the coalition to be cautious and ensure that impostors do not use the name of the NNPP to deceive them and demand unmerited relevance or favour.” Dr Major stressed.

Dr. Major said the party remained focused on preparations for the 2027 Nigerian General Elections, noting that its electronic membership registration exercise launched two weeks ago had recorded encouraging progress nationwide.

“Our goal remains to build a credible, technology-driven political institution that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians” He said

Reaffirming the party’s confidence ahead of the next elections, he declared that the party stands as the beautiful bride at the moment ahead of the 2027 general election.

He also extended an invitation to politicians across the country, saying, “Any politician who believes in the idea of a New Nigeria is invited to join us and run for positions up to the presidential level.”
