President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the House of Representatives to consider and pass a bill seeking to repeal and re-enact the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Establishment) Act, 2025.
In a letter read during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, the President said the proposed legislation would strengthen the legal framework of the fund and improve the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.
The letter, Titled “Transmission of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Establishment) Act, 2025 Repeal and Re-enactment,” President Tinubu said the bill aims to reposition the fund to better fulfill its mandate, particularly in training, equipment provision and personnel welfare.
He said the repeal and re-enactment would enhance the management and administration of the fund, support police training and skills development, provide modern equipment and improve welfare for personnel.
The President noted that the proposed changes respond to evolving security challenges and are expected to boost efficiency, accountability and sustainability within the fund.
He urged lawmakers to give the bill expedited consideration.
