The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of its workforce, with a focus on reducing sudden deaths caused by high blood pressure.
Speaking during an event to mark World Hypertension Day, the Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe said the FCTA has initiated a screening and sensitization campaign for its staff, an initiative that aligns with this year’s theme: “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer.”
Dr. Fasawe also revealed that the administration is enhancing health facilities and increasing access to affordable blood pressure-lowering medications, ensuring broader coverage and sustainability in managing hypertension.
Dr. Fasawe noted that ” Lifestyle modifications, such as adopting a balanced diet, regular physical activity, stress management, and regular medication adherence for those living with hypertension are essential strategies in the prevention and control of blood pressure management.”.
“The journey toward better health is a collective effort. We have the power to shape the communities and produce a healthy workforce. Therefore, in our call to action, let us renew our dedication in safeguarding the health and well-being of those affected by hypertension. I urge our friends in the press to help spread this message.”

In his remarks, the Acting Director of FCT Public Health, Dr. Dan Gadzama emphasized that the campaign is designed to strengthen health systems for early detection, diagnosis, and consistent management of hypertension across all communities within the FCT.
According to Dr. Gadzama, “To our healthcare professionals, I urge you to prioritize routine blood pressure checks and educate your patients on lifestyle modifications such as reduced salt intake, regular physical activity, and stress management. To members of the public, remember that your health is your responsibility know your numbers and take steps to keep your blood pressure within a healthy range.”
“I commend the efforts of our partners for championing the fight against non-communicable diseases. I also salute the resilience of individuals living with hypertension who are managing their condition and setting examples for others.”
Other stakeholders at the forum highlighted ongoing collaborations with health partners to integrate non-communicable disease services into primary healthcare, underscoring the importance of promoting healthy lifestyle choices and improving access to essential medications.
