Rivers Assembly Members Trying To Destabilise Rivers State- Ugochinyere

Coalition of opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives have accused Rivers State Assembly members of attempting to destabilize the state by seeking court orders to stop upcoming local government election.

In a live broadcast, the spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, alleged that Rivers Assembly members are seeking court orders to stop the conduct of the local government election ordered by the Supreme Court.

Ugochinyere also claimed the Assembly members plan to amend the Rivers Independent Electoral Commission Law to bring back local government chairmen whose tenure has expired.

The lawmakers accused Rivers Assembly members of not being interested in peace but in destabilizing the state. They also alleged the lawmakers are avoiding receiving the 2025 budget as directed by the Supreme Court.

The coalition assured Rivers people that the election will hold as scheduled, and no illegal amendments will stop the conduct of the elections.

They commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for adhering to the Supreme Court judgment despite provocation and betrayal of the peace accord.
