Kapital FM 92.9 The Station that Rocks!
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, FMHAPA, in partnership with the Economic Communities of West African States, ECOWAS and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS have initiated a Humanitarian Response Assistance Project, Phase 2 for flood affected and human disaster communities in six states.
The project is to support the efforts of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to address humanitarian situations across some states with worse affected disasters and alleviate their suffering.
Permanent Secretary FMHAPA, Mr Abel Enitan made this known at the presentation of the sum of nine hundred and six thousand, two hundred and five dollars for funding of the project to be overseen by the ministry.
The project, which was borne out of the fiftieth ordinary session of the ECOWAS, is a post response initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of those affected by flood and human disaster in Nigeria
According to the Permanent Secretary, FMHAPA, Mr Abel Enitan, the project was critical as it seeks to ameliorate the plight of the worse affected areas in the country.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by Director Special Duties, Mrs Agnes Aneke stressed that it was pertinent for a permanent solution to be proffered to address multidimensional crisis facing the nation as it continues to disrupt lives and livelihood of people.
Also, Director Humanitarian Affairs FMHAPA, Mr Valentine Ezulu explained that the project would provide nutrition assistance for six months to 6,788 malnourished children, 5,657 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and cash based transfers to help meet food needs of 1,949 IDPs.
On his part, the Secretary General NCRS, Abubakar Kender, reiterated the society’s commitment to humanitarian principles and well-being of society through solidarity and collaboration to recover and rebuild.
The Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, ECOWAS, Professor Fatou Sow Sarr emphasized that it was a delight to be part of the project as it would improve overall humanity and enhance the resilience of thousands of vulnerable people.
