HOR Approves Federal Polytechnics’ Budgets.

todayMarch 3, 2026

Background

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education has approved budget performance reports from federal polytechnics across Nigeria.

During a budget session
attended by rectors and other top officials of federal polytechnics at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, committee members also raised concerns about staffing and compliance at the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, CPN.

The Chairman of
Committee, Fuad Laguda said the House would collaborate closely with polytechnics to address long-standing issues in the sector.

He described polytechnics as vital to Nigeria’s industrial and technological development and called for continued investment.

“The country’s quest for technological advancement cannot be achieved without well-funded and properly equipped technical institutions,” he said.

Laguda urged the Committee of Federal Rectors to submit any pending budget documents to ensure effective legislative oversight.

The committee also questioned CPN Registrar Adebayo Adegbiji on the council’s operations, particularly how it manages eight regional offices with only 58 staff.

Laguda sought clarification on how the council sustains effective coordination and service delivery under such staffing limitations.

Adegbiji assured the committee that the council remains capable of fulfilling its constitutional mandate.

He emphasised that the CPN regulates and accredits private ICT organisations and pledged to provide all requested documents within seven days, reaffirming the council’s readiness to cooperate fully with the House committee.

The lawmakers said their oversight reflects an effort to strengthen Nigeria’s technical education and ICT regulatory sectors, both critical to national development.
