The Federal Government has promised to ensure adequate support and protect the rights of older persons through the domestication of the National Senior Citizens Centre NSCC Act.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Senator Abubakar Bagudu stated this at a one day Orientation, Consultation and Capacity enhancement Workshop in Abuja.
According to the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, the move is to ensure synergy with state governments and proper alignment of programmes for older persons.
He maintained that older persons rights to equity, inclusion, and access to care among others remains non-negotiable as it was one of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Earlier, the Director General, NSCC, Dr Emem Omokaro noted that there was need for equity and sustenance of the Act to improve lives of older persons both in rural and urban as well as creating opportunities for employment, empowerment and community development.
Dr Omokaro called for more collaboration that would build systems and formulate policies, infrastructure to strengthen older persons rights.
Also, Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation,Mr Abel Enitan assured of ithe ministry’s commitment to provide adequate capacity enhancement towards older persons to have dignified lives and enjoy improved well being.
