In a solemn ceremony at the military cemetery in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu, alongside top government officials, paid their respects to the 17 soldiers brutally murdered in Okuoama, Delta State.
The nation mourned as dignitaries, including the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, governors, and senior government functionaries, gathered to honor the fallen heroes.
In his tribute to the fallen heroes,
President Tinubu
pledged unwavering support to the families left behind, announcing that the children of the deceased soldiers would receive scholarships until university level.
Additionally, he directed that all benefits owed the fallen soldiers be expedited, with a promise to fulfill them within 90 days.
As a mark of national recognition for their sacrifice, President Tinubu declared that the slain soldiers would be posthumously bestowed with national honors of the member of Order of the Niger (MON) for the senior officers while the remaining soldiers were honored with the Order of the Federal Republic OFR.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa while praising the bravery and dedication of the fallen soldiers assured their families that the nation’s armed forces would continue to stand by them, providing support and assistance in their time of need.
He added that the military will not rest on its oars until perpetrators of the heinous act are caught and brought to justice.
