The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes has recommended the arrest of Binance executives, after they failed to attend an ongoing investigative hearing.
The executives were expected to address concerns regarding allegations of financing terrorism, money laundering, tax evasion, and other financial crimes.
Despite sending legal representation, the committee insisted that the executives themselves must appear.
Binance’s lawyer, Senator Ihenyen cited concerns due to recent arrests of company executives.
However, the Committee Chairman and a Member from Abia State, Ginger Obinna explained that Binance’s absence warranted recommending the House to issue a subpoena and arrest warrant for the executives to face questioning on the allegations brought forth by concerned groups.
The Niger Delta Youth Council and the Empowerment for Unemployed Youths had petitioned the house, alledging financing terrorism, money laundering and other financial crimes including tax evasion.
