Member Representing Abak/Etim Ekpa/Ika Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom,
Clement Jimbo has submitted a petition to the House urging the immediate release of Mfonmma Mfon Effiong, who was unlawfully arrested and detained by the Nigerian Army Military Police at Mambilla Barracks Brigade, Abuja

Presenting the petition on behalf of the petitioner, Nsisong Mfon Effiong, who is also Mfonmma’s brother, the lawmaker highlighted that Mfonmma had been held for 10 days without proper justification.

According to Mr. Jimbo, Mfonmma’s arrest stemmed from allegations made by his employer in Abuja, accusing him of involvement in kidnapping, an allegation the petitioner claims is baseless.

Nsisong Mfon Effiong recounted the events leading to the arrest of his brother explaining that his sibling had moved to Abuja to seek employment and was working as a driver for a resident in Asokoro.

According to him, a dispute arose when Effiong failed to pay a portion of his salary to the job agent, resulting in verbal abuse from his employer.

In response, he said Mfonmma chose to resign, but subsequent attempts to reach him were unsuccessful, raising concerns about his whereabouts.

After a week-long search, according to him, it was discovered that the Nigerian Army Military Police were detaining Mfonmma without allowing him to communicate with his family or friends.

He explained that efforts to prove his innocence through phone records were futile, as no evidence of involvement in kidnapping was found.

Nsisong Mfon Effiong therefore appealed to the House to ensure his brother’s release and called on the Chief of Army Staff to initiate a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding his detention.

Additionally, he called for his brother’s medical examination and proper treatment, as he has been unlawfully held in confinement.
