Mental Arithmetic To Be Introduced In Educational System

Mental arithmetic is to be introduced into the nation’s educational system.

Chairman of the National Mathematical Centre, NMC, Prof Promise Mabine, made this known during the closing ceremony of the two-week mental arithmetic training workshop in Abuja.

He explained that Abacus is an educational solution, empowering both students and teachers to swiftly navigate through mathematical problems in record time.

According to
Professor Promise Mabine, Abacus not only eradicates the fear of mathematics among students but also aids in optimizing the right brain, significantly boosting students’ intelligence quotient.

On her part, the Director of Teacher Professional Development at the FCT UBEB, Mrs. Jacqueline Amasike, who represented the Ag Executive Chairman, Dr. Alhassan Sule, said plans were underway to empower educators, and foster innovation using mental arithmetic.

Commending the initiative, participating students and teachers expressed gratitude for the introduced in programs.

The participants attested that the workshop has notably enhanced their academic performance with improved memory retention, heightened concentration, and increased confidence in facing mathematical challenges.
