Tribute To Tokula, Director Marketing FRCN, As He Retires @60

At any given time in every society, children who would later become great are from Ajedibo-du, Omala local government area of Kogi State, and 21st of January 1964 was such a day.

A son was born into the family of Tokula Edibo and was named Michael, the sixth out of sixteen children.

Al the age of 6, Mike as he is popularly called, began his primary education at LEX Primary School, Ajiyolo 1970-1973 and completed it at LE.A Primary School Abejukolo 1973-1976 where his leadership qualities began to manifest as he was made the school’s Time Keeper.

He proceeded to the Federal Government College Enugu for his secondary education between 1976-1981 where he was made the House Captain, Quarter Master General and a full-fledged member of the Man O War club.

Mike proceeded to the prestigious University of Jos, where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from 1981-1985 after which he served the nation under the mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme in Uzo, Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State from 1985-1986.

Mike Tokula left an indelible legacy at the popular Abuja Sheraton hotel from 1989 to 1991 where he started his journey in the labour world until he joined the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria as a Senior Commercial Officer on the 1st of April 1992.

His doggedness and commitment towards the improvement of the Corporation’s Internally Generated Revenue, earned him an Award such as Best Marketer of the year 2002, letters of Commendation and several promotions up to the highest level in civil service as Director Marketing in 2023.

He is married to Patricia Jummai Tokula and the Union is blessed with four sons.

As a Spiritual and God-fearing man, the Name Mike To ula will not be easily forgotten in the Catholic family where he served as the national President of All Saints Igala Catholic Community of Nigeria from 03 2018. His service to humanity earned him many recognitions as he bagged up to 15 faith Based Awards spanning over 10 years.

No wonder in 2021 he was received into the Papal Knighthood of the Order of Sylvester the Pope, thus his latest title, Sir Mike Tokula! As a true son of the Kingdom, Mike Tokula, popularly known as “ONE”, meaning the one with ty character, had never been influenced to deviate from his selfless personality.

Just like the words of Bob Marley (and I quote) “the greatest of a not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and ability to ose around him positively”- Mike Tokula is humility personified, wisdom 1end to all, irrespective of ethnic group, religion or tribe, loved by all and by none and an embodiment of purposeful leadership.

He is regarded as a unique public servant and a passionate team player who went the extra mile to attain greatness in diverse spheres of life against all odds. A gentleman with uncommon sagacity, a rare leader, always grooming successors whether in public or the private workplace, always making sure the problems of people around him are solved.

He is seen as a mentor and a wise leader by his younger colleagues, friends, hence Mike Tokula could be referred to as the Good Samaritan of our time.

His love for people was manifested when he was involved in a fatal motor accident in 2019 and was admitted at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.

His ward was so over-crowded with loved ones and well wishers to the point that the medical workers enquired if the man on the bed was a king.

Today, Sunday 21st of January 2024 is a remarkable day as Sir Micheal Tokula Edibo, a Living legend, marks his 60th birthday and bows out of meritorious service from the stable of Radio Nigeria with his head held high as he came, he saw and he conquered.
