Troops of the Nigeria Armed Forces have achieved significant success in combating terrorism and insecurity over the past two weeks.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba stated this while addressing newsmen at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
According to him eighty terrorists were neutralised, three hundred and four arrested, and forty four kidnapped hostages rescued.
General Buba added that one hundred and fifty two crude oil thieves were also apprehended in the Niger Delta region.
He further explained that the operations resulted in the denial of an estimated sum of N347,173,500.00 from oil theft in the South South while troops recovered various weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and other items.
The Director stated that illegal refining sites were destroyed, and stolen crude oil, illegally refined AGO, DPK, and PMS were recovered in the Niger Delta region.
Addressing the tragic drone strike incident in Kaduna State, General Buba clarified that eighty one residents lost their lives, with seventy others sustaining injuries.
He expressed the military condolences and emphasized that there were ongoing investigations to enhance operational procedures and prevent civilian casualties.
Acknowledging the concern over civilian casualties, General Buba affirmed the Armed Forces commitment to addressing the issue, ensuring proper handling of situations, and taking measures to prevent harm to civilians.
General Buba reiterated the commitment of the military to continuously improve operations and prioritise the safety of all Nigerians.
