The Nigeria Hunter and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, has promised to continue to reward its dedicated and hardworking officers and men nationwide.
The Commander General of NHFSS, Ambassador Joshua Osatimehin made the promise in Abuja while decorating the Bauchi State Commander of NHFSS, Mallam Umaru Aliyu Shayi who was promoted to Assistant Commander General, Operations, National Headquarters.
Ambassador Osatimehin said the promotion was due to the commitment and professional performance of Mallam Shayi in the fight against bandits, boko haram and other forms of criminality within and around Bauchi State.
“I want to tell you that last year alone, he was able to arrest 178 bandits and this year he has also arrested over 120 bandits so with this he has been consistent in his operation in assisting constituted authority and working hand in hand with the Nigeria Police, the Army, Civil Defence to curb crimes and criminality in Bauchi State and the North East at large hence the need for the promotion” the Commander General explained
He therefore reiterated the continuous determination of NHFSS in complementing the efforts of other formal security agencies in the fight against insecurity in the country.
According to him, with the collective support of all stakeholders, Nigeria will soon overcome its security challenges.
Ambassador Osatimehin therefore used the opportunity to appeal to President Bola Tinubu to assent to the NHFSS Bill before him to further strengthen the security apparatus of Nigeria.
The Commander General added that the Bill when signed into law would further enhance the performance of NHFSS in tackling insecurity most especially in forests across the country.
Speaking after being decorated and presented a certificate, the new Assistant Commander General, Operations, National Headquarters, Mallam Umaru Aliyu Shayi commended the Commander General, Ambassador Joshua Osatimehin for finding him worthy of the promotion.
According to him, the promotion will further encourage him and boost his morale in combating insecurity in Bauchi State.
While appreciating the support of the Governor of Bauchi State towards NHFSS, Mallam Shayi solicited for more logistics and welfare packages for his officers and men to enable them protect lives and property of people of the State most especially in rural areas.
Highlights of the occasion were also decoration and presentation of certificates to some other junior officers of NHFSS from the Northern Commands of the Service who have equally been promoted to various ranks.
