It is another Independence anniversary for the country. Making it the 63rd, in the series of the celebrations, some were marked with a lot of fanfare while others were done low keyed, such as this year’s anniversary which the Federal Government declared, will be low keyed.
In the last one week, there have been series of events for the anniversary, including religious and political activities.
Though it appears as if it is the normal yearly line up of events, this year’s anniversary has so much to remember at least, in the last one year.
Nigerians can pass to be among the best people to be with, for the resilience demostrated in the face of the challenges in all ramifications.
The nation has gone through difficult situations as a result of some economic policies by the government and effects of criminal activities here and there, threatening the peace ,unity and progress of the country.
For instance, the currency redesigning policy and the fuel subsidy removal are among the most difficult ones that had touched the Joy and peace of the masses.
Nevertheless,in the face of all these, the people are very hopeful that it will be better some day.
While, it is expected for all to be optimistic that the situation will improve, it is very pertinent for government at all levels to make necessary efforts to introduce immediate measures that will quickly encourage the citizens that all concerned are really sensitive to their plights.
Measures such as the Mass transit vehicle schemes, and educational programmes that will help students to be in schools and not hindered from educational services due to fees should be prioritized.
Palliative schemes that can cut across the needs of the majority of the people, especially the unemployed and youths, are expected now more than ever.
If there is any thing the people needs now as the nation Mark the sixty-third,Independence anniversary, should be what will enhance their well being, especially with regards to food and transportation.
Actions, programmes and policies, that may not have immediate relief to the plights of the people should be replaced with one with immediate relief packages.
With these in the mind of government at levels and all stakeholders towards cushioning the effects of some economic policies on the citizens, Nigerians will by the grace of God, have cause to rejoice even as the nation marks her Independence anniversary.
