The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State has upheld the election of Dominic Ifeanyichukwu Okafor, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, as the duly elected House of Representatives’ member of Aguata Federal Constituency.
In a unanimous decision, the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by High Chief Johnbosco Onunkwor of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Court while delivering the judgement in a petition No.EPT/AN/HR/22/2023 filed by the petitioner Johnbosco Onunkwor against Dominic Ifeanyichukwu Okafor, APGA and the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, noted that the petitioner failed woefully to prove their cases against the respondents.
The court therefore dismissed their claims and awarded each of the three respondents ( Dominic Okafor, APGA & INEC) the sum of One hundred thousand Naira (N100,000) against the petitioner.
In his response to the judgement, Dominic Okafor, who thanked God Almighty for making it possible also thanked the good people of Aguata Federal Constituency for giving him their mandate.
The Lawmaker however reiterated his commitment to bring home dividends of democracy accrued to them.
While extending his hands of fellowship to the petitioner, Chief Johnbosco Onunkwor who he described as a friend, a, professional colleague and a fellow rotarian, he urged him to join hands with him to bring more dividends of democracy to the good people of Aguata Federal Constituency.
