BFN Confirms 43 Players For Lagos International Badminton

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria BFN has confirmed that 43 Nigerian players will compete for honors at the upcoming sixth edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classics.

A total of 108 foreign players from over thirty-five countries will be participating in the tournament.

The four day event will take place at the Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, from August 30 to September 2, 2023.

According to a statement released by BFN, thirty-seven countries have confirmed their participation in the sixth edition of the Badminton Classics tournament including Nigeria, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Australia, Austria, Benin Republic, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada and Czech Republic.

With England, Equatorial Guinea, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Mauritius, and Norway also included.

The other countries to complete the list are Peru, Sri Lanka, Spain, South Africa, Slovakia, Slovenia, Togo, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, USA and Zambia.

The Lagos International Badminton Classics has been variously described as the highest category sanctioned championship to be hosted by any African Country.

The rating of this Badminton Classics also affords the participants, including Nigerian players, the opportunity to garner points towards qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics as well as improve their Badminton World Federation BWF World ranking.

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria also expressed happiness that the competition is staging a big comeback after being off the calendar for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftereffects.
