Journalists have been urged to use their profession to foster unity and understanding among Nigerians for national development .
The Interim Country Director of “Search for Common Ground”, Fatima Madaki gave the advise in Abuja at a workshop for Journalists on conflict sensitive reporting on Freedom of Religion and Belief in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
Fatima Madaki who described Journalism as a vital tool for public opinion and societal perception noted that Freedom of Religion and Belief is a fundamental human right.
The Project Manager, Daniel Ogabiela said the purpose of the workshop was to develop a curriculum to train other journalists on sensitive reporting of religious matters.
He said the workshop was also to empower journalists to prevent and address conflicts along religious lines and advance freedom of religion and belief.
Some of the Participants described the workshop as apt as it has given them guidelines on how to report sensitive issues on Religion and Belief.
