FG Urged To Invest More In Tourism Sector

Federal Government has been urged to invest heavily in Tourism sector for economic development in the country..

A former country representative, Africa Union, Economic, Social and Cultural Council Mr Olasunkanmi Oba stated this while addressing Newsmen ahead of a Global Tourism Summit in Nigeria.

Mr Olasunkanmi Oba said the potential in tourism sector if well harnessed would assist in creating jobs and curb youth restiveness in the country.

He also stressed the need for the government to provide a conducive environment to attract foreign investment.

The facilitator of the summit, Mr Olugbenga Komolafe said the conference would provide a roadmap for the present administration on ways to give special attention to tourism in its economic diversification policy.

Mr Komolafe was of the opinion that collaboration with stakeholders in the Private and public sector would help in the success of the summit.

Also speaking, the Director General, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Victoria Akai believes that the right investment on tourism would increase the country’s GDP.

Mrs Victoria Akai said security arrangement would be put in place to ensure the success of the summit.

In a separate remarks, stakeholders in the Tourism sector and representatives of the federal capital territory administration advocated for a separate Federal ministry of Tourism and Hospitality to fast track development of the sector
