The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Doctor Garba Abari has called on all stakeholders to collaborate with the agency in sensitising the people of Kogi state on the need for peaceful and credible governorship election in November this year.
Doctor Abari made the call at a stakeholders meeting in Lokoja.
The Director General who stressed that election was not a do or die affair condemned acts of violence which characterised previous elections in the country.
He urged stakeholders to restore confidence in the democratic model which had served several countries by speaking against the level of violence, manipulations and desperation exhibited during election which had generally given democracy a bad name.
Doctor Garba Abari also described voter apathy as a major challenge in Nigeria’s democracy and advised eligible voters in Kogi state to come out enmass and exercise their civic duty by voting the candidate of their choice in the election.
In an address of welcome, the state director of the agency, Patrick Edogbanya explained that the sensitisation programme was to engage key stakeholders in efforts towards a free, fair, credible and peaceful election in Kogi state.
In separate remarks, representatives of INEC, the Police, NDLEA, NSCDC, ICPC, NYSC, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, DSS, NNA Lugard among others, stressed the need for synergy towards a hitch-free governorship election in Kogi state.
