APER Will Cease To Be Used As Appraisal Instrument – Esan

Background

The Federal Government says the Annual Performance Evaluation Report, APER will cease to be used as an appraisal instrument by 2024.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan made this known at a media parley as part of activities to mark this year’s civil service week in Abuja.

Dr. Yemi-Esan who said subsequently Performance Planning, Review,
Appraisal by core MDAs will be done in line with the Performance Management System
Guidelines within the approved timelines, beginning from 2024 when APER will cease to be used as an
appraisal instrument.

She also pledged government’s commitment to increase welfare packages to cushion the effects of emerging circumstances militating against effective service delivery in the country.

While speaking on the embargo on employment into the Federal Civil Service, Dr Yemi-Esan explained that there are exemptions on organisations who have shortage of staff but due processes on laid down rules must be followed.

The Head of Service while applauding civil servants for their doggedness in service delivery stressed stiffer penalties on erring officers indulged in gross mismanagement of public funds.

Responding to questions from journalists, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs Toyin Maiden assured civil servants of prompt payment of July salary

She said, “For June, we encountered some difficulties beyond our control but I can assure you that everything has been put in place to ensure that July 2023 salaries are not delayed and will be paid any moment from now.
