FCT-IRS Cautions MDAs, Contractors On Not Remitting WHT To Appropriate Authority

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has caution Ministries Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) as well as contractors in the FCT to ensure that they remit Withholding Tax (WHT) to appropriate quarters.

The advice followed the discovery that Withholding Taxes meant for FCT IRS were being wrongly paid to other tax authority.

In a Statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, FCT IRS, Mr Mustapha Sumaila says WHT for limited liability companies is remitted to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) while WHT for Enterprises and Individual contractors goes to the State IRS, which FCT-IRS represents in the territory.

It also warns that the service will not grant Tax Clearance Certificate on WHT credit that was wrongly sent to another tax jurisdiction by the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) platform.

The Statement therefore advises all taxpayers to liaise closely with their respective MDA desk officers to avert issue of wrong remittances.
