PDP Crisis: Wike Frowns At Violations Of Agreements By Stakeholders

todayMay 25, 2025

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced his withdrawal from all previously reached agreements aimed at resolving the internal crisis plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement personally signed and titled “PDP Crisis, My Position,” Wike vowed to fight until justice is achieved.

The former Rivers State Governor expressed deep frustration over what he described as betrayal and persistent violations of agreements by some key party stakeholders.

He specifically accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, of being the chief architect of the current turmoil within the PDP, citing his alleged failure to uphold previously reached decisions.

“Governor Makinde’s non-adherence to agreements reached was the bane of the party’s crisis, and he was the chief culprit of this anomaly,” Wike stated, emphasizing that the party’s instability stemmed from dishonesty and lack of trust among its leadership.

Wike recounted a series of reconciliation efforts, including meetings involving prominent PDP leaders such as Governors Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He noted that during one of the meetings in Abuja, several resolutions were adopted, one of which was the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court judgment.

However, Wike lamented that even before the Saraki-led reconciliation committee could commence its work, the agreements were already being violated.

He accused Makinde and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah of undermining the process by orchestrating parallel decisions within the party, including attempts to replace Anyanwu with Deputy National Secretary, Ude Okoye.

” This and other similar actions are clear breaches of the agreements reached,” he said.

Wike also referenced a botched PDP zonal congress in Jos on May 24, 2025, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declined attendance due to an improperly signed invitation letter, which excluded the legally recognized signatory, Senator Anyanwu.

Expressing his disappointment, Wike said, “I have been in this party since 1998 and have worked tirelessly for its survival. It is on record that none of these individuals have made sacrifices close to mine. I had thought we could keep trust among us, but it’s now evident that they would continue to play games.”

He concluded the statement by affirming his decision to disengage from all previous agreements, stating, “I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”

“What is more painful is that I contributed substantially to most of these governors winning their elections, yet I have not made any personal demands on any of them and I would never do so”.

“Most importantly, I had thought that we could keep the trust amongst us, but since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games to the detriment of the party, as is the case in the current debacle in the North-Central zonal elections, I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight until justice is attained.”
