The President of COSROPIN, Senator Eze Ajoku made the call during a football match between the Old and Younger People. organized by the Coalition in Abuja.

According to him, the essence of all the activities is to create awareness of the plights of older persons and showcase the fact that older persons are still useful to society and themselves.

Nigeria and other countries are talking about healthy ageing and what we are doing here by exercising and taking part in sports is to show that we’re still strong and healthy and we need more encouragement from the Federal Government in this area by providing recreational facilities for older persons just as it did for youths” the President of COSROPIN stressed.

He explained that the football match also helped the younger generation to appreciate the roles of older persons in society advising them to always respect the elderly, give them a priority and shun their abuse in society.

While calling for policies and programmes that would benefit older persons in the country, Senator Ajoku advised the Federal Government to ratify the African Union, Convention on the Rights of Older Persons towards ensuring that they are effectively protected and catered for in the country.

The President of COSROPIN equally called for the signing of the Bill on the Rights of Older Persons towards alleviating their plight and improving their well-being generally.
