FG Honours Outgoing IMF Representative, Commits To Economic Reforms ‎ ‎ ‎

‎The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its long standing partnership with the International Monetary Fund, IMF, while honouring the Fund’s outgoing Resident Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Christian Ebeke, for his contributions to the country’s economic reform programme.

‎Speaking at a farewell dinner in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, described Dr. Ebeke as a trusted partner whose professionalism, technical expertise and constructive engagement helped deepen cooperation between Nigeria and the IMF during a critical period of economic transition.

‎Oyedele said Dr. Ebeke’s three year tenure coincided with the implementation of major reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening public finances, improving investor confidence and laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth. He noted that the outgoing IMF representative provided valuable technical support while demonstrating a clear understanding of Nigeria’s unique economic realities.

‎The minister added that Dr. Ebeke made significant contributions to policy discussions on fiscal reforms, domestic revenue mobilisation, public debt management, foreign exchange reforms and other strategic government priorities.

He commended his collaborative approach, humility and commitment to dialogue, which further strengthened the relationship between Nigeria and the IMF.

‎Also speaking, the Director of the International Economics Relations Department, Stanley George, said Dr. Ebeke’s tenure would be remembered for professionalism, constructive engagement and steadfast support for Nigeria’s economic reform efforts.

According to him, the partnership between Nigeria and the IMF had continued to grow stronger through mutual respect and sustained dialogue.

‎The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, said Dr. Ebeke served during a defining period in Nigeria’s reform journey, when the Federal Government and the CBN implemented bold policies to restore macroeconomic stability and improve market confidence.

He praised the IMF official for promoting technical cooperation and bringing objectivity and practical understanding to every engagement.

‎Responding, Dr. Ebeke described his assignment in Nigeria as a privilege and a professionally rewarding experience.

He said he would leave with deep admiration for the resilience, talent and entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerians, expressing confidence that sustained reforms and sound economic policies would place the country on the path to inclusive and durable growth.

‎The farewell dinner attracted top government officials, including the Director General of the Debt Management Office, Mrs. Patience Oniha, the Statistician General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, chief executives of government agencies, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The guests also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the strong partnership between Nigeria and the IMF in support of the country’s ongoing fiscal and macroeconomic reforms.
