A total of 174 researchers across various Tertiary institutions are to benefit from the N7.5bn federal government, Tertiary Education Trustfund TETFUND research grant cycle for the year 2025.
This is as the Fund is constructing 120 hostels and rehabilitating already existing structures, under the Tertiary Education Trustfund Projects across tertiary institutions of the country.
The Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Sunny Echono who made the submission during a press conference in Abuja, noted that thematic areas covered by the research grant includes health, agriculture, security,natural resources and terrestrials eco system among others.
“A total of 174 grants were awarded to various research teams across the thematic areas of national priorities at a total sum of N7.5 billion.
“The amount awarded per grant to the various research teams ranges from N13,698,897.00 to N49,979,826.04.” he said..
Mr Echono explained that the selection was done with keen interest for national development, adding that the amount awarded ranges from 13million to 49.79 million with three top performung institutions that won the award.
“The top-performing institutions under the 2025 NRF grants include the Federal University of Technology, Minna (18); Federal University of Technology, Owerri (11); Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (10); University of Ilorin (8); Bayero University, Kano (7); Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (7); University of Jos (6); University of Ibadan (5); University of Lagos (5); and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (5)”.
According to him, several state-owned institutions also secured grants, including Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Ekiti State University, Kwara State University, Adamawa State University, Rivers State University and Sokoto State University, among others.
The Executive Secretary while urging the researchers to use the Fund judiciously, commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for his commitment in transforming the education sector, adding that all is set for the President to commission landmark projects across 40 institutions from now till September 2026.
“The Fund wishes to congratulate the institutions and the research teams that emerged successfully after such a rigorous and competitive selection process. This award marks the end of the selection process for the 2025 NRF grant cycle.” TETFUND Boss added .
