Tinubu Commissions N5 Dape Road, Says Renewed Hope Delivering On Promises

todayJune 10, 2026

Background

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has commissioned the full-scope development of Arterial Road N5 Obafemi Awolowo Way, stretching from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in Dape District, Abuja.

On the occasion, President Tunubu who called on residents to pay their Taxes to continue to enjoy unprecedented transformation, assured that the Renewed Hope Agenda is committed to delivering projects from conception to completion.

“To the residents and business owners enjoying this transformation, I urge you to meet your obligations. Pay your taxes. Clear your land fees and ground rents. Your compliance gives the FCT Administration the strength to build more roads like this one.”

President Tinubu represented by VIce President, Kashim Shettima recalled that the first phase of the road project, covering the Gwarinpa I District section, was inaugurated in June 2025 with a promise that the remaining section would be completed.

He noted that the administration had fulfilled that commitment by delivering the Dape District section within the stipulated timeline.

Tinubu described the road as more than a transportation project, saying it represents economic progress, improved connectivity, and a practical demonstration of government’s determination to enhance the quality of life of Nigerians.

“Let us be clear about this: we did not inherit this section from decades past. We conceived it, we funded it, and we delivered it. It was awarded to Julius Berger with a strict 15-month deadline and flagged off in October 2024.”

The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his dedication to infrastructure development, describing him as the “Engine of Execution” whose leadership has ensured that projects are completed on schedule.

Speaking earlier, Wike said the Renewed Hope Administration has extended the dividends of governance beyond the city centre to satellite towns and developing districts across the FCT.

He noted that residents in previously neglected communities are now witnessing unprecedented investments in road infrastructure, public facilities, and urban development.

According to him, the completion of the N5 corridor is part of a broader strategy to open up communities, ease movement, stimulate business activities, and improve living standards for residents.

The Minister further disclosed that all property owners affected by the road construction were duly compensated, emphasizing that the FCT Administration remained committed to fairness and due process in the execution of development projects.

“And I want to say clearly, we paid.‎So if you are saying that because you are from that place, and development has passed, and government did not dash you money, we don’t dash money when we are carrying out development. So if you say you have property and it was demolished, and you were not paid, come and say so. I challenge anybody. It’s not correct.” Wike said

He said the successful completion of the road demonstrates the administration’s resolve to balance infrastructure expansion with the welfare of affected residents while delivering projects that support economic growth and urban transformation.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as another significant milestone of PresidentTinubu’s commitment to improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, and creating opportunities for residents across the Federal Capital Territory.

Mahmoud also paid tribute to Wike for what she described as his purposeful leadership and unwavering commitment to transforming Abuja through the delivery of critical infrastructure.

She expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents of Life Camp, Dape, and neighbouring communities for their support and cooperation throughout the construction period, noting that their partnership was instrumental to the successful completion of the project.

The newly commissioned Arterial Road N5 is expected to strengthen connectivity between Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Idu, and Mbora while providing direct access to the Idu Industrial District.

The project will reduce traffic congestion, lower transportation costs, attract investment, create employment opportunities, and further advance the Federal Government’s vision of a modern, efficient, and economically vibrant capital city.
