FRSC Moves To Ensure Responsible Driving During Sallah Celebration

The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has cautioned motorists against the use of worn-out and expired tyres especially as many are set to embark on journies for the Eid El Kabir celebration

The Corps Marshal gave the advice in Keffi, Nasarawa State at the commencement of a Six day Sallah Special Patrol mega rally to senzitize road users on the need to drive responsibly during the celebration.

Represented by the Corps Public Education Officer Ohaeri Osondu, the FRSC Boss told commercial drivers at Keffi Central Park to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition and avoid overloading, overspeeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mallam Shehu Mohammed said the motor parks rallies became necessary to bring about effective traffic control and check the excesses of motorists on the highways.

The FRSC Corps Marshal urged transport union executives to join FRSC in bringing sanity to the highways.

According to him, the only way to compliment the effort of the Federal Government’s huge investment on road rehabilitation and construction is to bring down the number of road accidents to the lowest level.

He noted that the senzitization campaign was carried out in all major parks across the country to ensure free flow of traffic.

The Assistant Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Keffi branch, Usman Kalid said all the park leaders in Keffi, Garaku, Akwanga held a congress last week to educate them on the need to ensure that their members abide by traffic rules and regulations.

He maintained that stiffer penalties await members caught driving under the influence of hard drugs and other nefarious activities.

According to him, any member that fails to abide by the rules shall not be allowed to load in any of the NURTW parks and would also be suspended for months.

He commended the FRSC for taking the campaign to the corridor which he said had educated them on the best way to drive during festivities and beyond.

The sensitization rally was taken to the Nassarawa State University gate where the team educated motorcycle and tricycle riders on the need to obey traffic lights and avoid overloading.
