The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of four thousand (4000) personnel across the length and breadth of the FCT to enforce law and order as well as ensure a peaceful celebration of the Eid el-kabir by muslim faithfuls.
The deployment is sequel to the need to ensure security of lives and property of residents as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the FCT and its environs before, during and after the salah.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Monica Ojobi says the deployment of officers and men cuts across specialized departments and units of the Corps like the Arms squad, Female Strike Force, crack squad and Agro Rangers.
The statement says in order to forestall surprises from criminals and bandits who may want to plant IEDs to disrupt the celebration, the Commandant has already deployed undercover men of the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive Unit (CBRNE) to ensure they sweep the territory for IEDs during the celebration.
It states that there is also adequate deployment to volatile areas and soft targets such as Mosques, Eid Prayer grounds, Shopping Malls, Recreational Centres, Markets, Motor Parks, Amusement Parks and areas housing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
Black spots like uncompleted buildings that harbour criminals are also covered to avert security breaches.
The statement says the Commandant gave matching orders to all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure maximum security in their areas of coverage to avoid security hitches.
It admonishes personnel to adhere completely to the rules of engagement, avoid harassment and intimidation of any citizen and avoid accidental discharge.
” As usual, I will not tolerate any form of security breaches, all hands must be on deck, ensure your personnel comply wholesomely”.
The FCT Boss, urged FCT residents to be vigilant, report any suspicious movement by individuals or groups to any security agency close to them, avoid commuting in commercial vehicles with tinted glasses, without any form of proper identification, especially stop and pick vehicles by the road side to avoid being victims of one chance or kidnappers.
The Commandant who charged all Muslims to celebrate responsibly, assured them of a safe celebration, promising that the Corps is poised as usual to secure the metropolis and it’s environs before, during and after the salah celebrations.
” We are ready to ensure the celebration is peaceful, you have a responsibility to carry out, you must be proactive, vigilant and ready to cooperate with us for our common good”, the Commandant said.
While wishing Muslim Ummah happy eid-el-Kabir, Dr Olusola Odumosu warned criminals and vandals to keep off Critical National Assets and Infrastructure adding that NSCDC covert officers and patrol teams are all over the city and will not withhold the heavy arm of the law from any offender.
