The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)has called for deeper collaboration between the media and security institutions to advance national peace, security, and inclusive governance.
The National President of NAWOJ, Hajia Ibrahim made the call during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Mohammed, at the Command Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit was ahead of the forthcoming WINSEC Summit and Awards 2026, scheduled for 30th June 2026.
The National chairperson, who was represented by the Chairperson Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee of WINSEC and NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Comrade Bassey Ita-Ikpang, conveyed Hajia Ibrahim’s appreciation to the Commissioner for granting the association an audience despite his demanding schedule.
She informed the Commissioner, as the Chief Security Officer of the FCT, about the upcoming WINSEC Summit and Awards noting that the initiative is being organized by NAWOJ National in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), media houses, and Crime Reporters Global Nigeria.
She stated that WINSEC which stands for Women in Security Summit, is designed as a strategic platform to bridge conversations, strengthen partnerships, and promote greater inclusion and recognition of women in the nation’s security architecture,
NAWOJ President further explained that the summit will bring together stakeholders from security agencies, the media, government, civil society, and policy circles to engage on issues of security, peacebuilding, gender inclusion, leadership, and national development.
She added that,the summit is not just an event but a movement aimed at amplifying the role of women in security conversations while recognizing distinguished personalities and institutions who have contributed significantly to ensuring peace, safety, and stability in society,
Hajia Aisha Ibrahim commended the Nigeria Police Force for remaining one of the closest security institutions to the people.
She acknowledged the FCT Command under CP Ahmed Mohammed for demonstrating professionalism, strategic coordination, courage, and commitment in addressing security challenges within the Federal Capital Territory.
The NAWOJ Boss therefore solicited the support and partnership of the FCT Police Command to ensure the success of the WINSEC Summit and Awards, stressing that the endorsement and institutional backing of the Police would add immense value to the event.
In his remarks, CP Ahmed Mohammed commended NAWOJ’s National leadership for initiating the WINSEC Summit and Awards and appreciated the association for finding him worthy of recognition.
The Commissioner assured NAWOJ of the full support of the FCT Police Command, particularly in providing security to guarantee a hitch-free summit for participants, guests, and NAWOJ members visiting the Federal Capital Territory.
He also pledged continued collaboration with NAWOJ FCT as host of the summit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and national development.
The courtesy visit ended on a cordial note, with both parties expressing commitment to sustaining a productive partnership between the media and security agencies.
