The Federal Government has expressed deep sympathy to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo following the deadly outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease that has claimed more than 130 lives and infected over 500 persons.
In a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria described the situation as tragic and heartbreaking, extending condolences to families affected by the outbreak.
The statement noted that Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Democratic Republic of Congo during the period of grief and public health emergency, while commending health authorities, frontline workers, humanitarian agencies and international partners for their efforts to contain the disease and care for victims.
Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to regional and international collaboration in tackling infectious diseases across Africa.
The Ministry stressed the need for stronger investment in healthcare infrastructure, disease surveillance, medical research and emergency preparedness to prevent future outbreaks on the continent.
The Federal Government prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives, speedy recovery for the infected, and strength for bereaved families.
