Beautiful Beginning Academy Wins NUJ FCT Media Literacy Quiz

Beautiful Beginning Academy, Abuja, has won the 2026 Secondary School Media Literacy Quiz organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.

The competition, aimed at promoting press clubs and media literacy among secondary school students in the Federal Capital Territory, saw Beautiful Beginning Academy defeat Cedar Hall Academy, Lugbe, 8–6 in a tie-breaker after both schools finished with 205 points at the end of the second round.

In the first round, Government Senior Secondary School, GSS Garki scored 70 points, GSS Gwarimpa had 80 points, Cedar Hall Academy scored 95 points, and Beautiful Beginning Academy led with 115 points.

At the end of the second round, GSS Garki scored 40 points, GSS Gwarimpa recorded 80 points, Cedar Hall Academy had 110 points, and Beautiful Beginning Academy pulled 90 points to force a tie at the top.

Speaking at the event, NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Grace Ike, said the quiz was designed to mentor young people on how the media operates and to revive press clubs in schools.

She commended the students’ performance and urged teachers to sustain press club activities.

“Teachers should continue to organize press club activities and invite the NUJ. We are willing to support such initiatives,” she said.

Ike added that the initiative would strengthen media literacy, mentorship and community engagement among students.

Earlier, NUJ Vice Chairman and Coordinator of Press Clubs, Yahaya Ndambabo, said the programme reflects the council’s commitment to promoting journalism, critical thinking and responsible communication among young people.

He said press clubs help students develop communication skills, leadership qualities and interest in journalism and public affairs.

Students alongside representatives of from the Secondary Education Board, teachers and other stakeholders who attended the event described the competition as timely and impactful.

The event ended with the presentation of awards and cash prizes to the winners by the NUJ FCT Council chairman.
