Rep. Akintunde Rotimi Jr. has won the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary for Ekiti North I Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency, of Ekiti State, securing a decisive mandate across the constituency.
Rotimi, the incumbent, won in 22 of the 24 wards in the primary, defeating eight other aspirants, including former lawmaker Bimbo Daramola, Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejioye and Ayo Omotosho.
Ahead of the primary, three aspirants, Funke Owoseni, Kayode Omoboya and Yemi Ayodele Ayeni, withdrew from the race and endorsed Rotimi’s bid for a second term.
Party stakeholders across the constituency had also backed the incumbent days before the primary, citing his performance and accessibility in office.
Daramola, who last served in the National Assembly in 2015, has made several unsuccessful attempts to return and but was also defeated by Rotimi in the 2023 general election.
Rotimi, who serves as spokesperson of the House of Representatives, has built a profile around legislative communication and public engagement in the 10th Assembly.
The primary was conducted peacefully, with party officials describing the outcome as a clear expression of support for the incumbent ahead of the general election.
