NAWOJ FCT Congratulates Benjamin – Laniyi As DG, National Women Devt Centre

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has congratulated Dr Adedayo Benjamin- Laniyi on her appointment as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development.

In a statement signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Bassey Ita Ikpang, the association described the appointment by President Bola Tinubu as well deserved and inspiring for women and girls across the Federal Capital Territory and the country at large.

The association also congratulated the newly constituted Governing Council of the Centre led by Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as Chairman, alongside other members including Ms. Lois Auta, Hon. Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

NAWOJ FCT noted that the appointments reflected a renewed commitment to inclusive leadership, women empowerment, gender advancement, and the strengthening of institutions dedicated to protecting women’s rights and opportunities.

The association expressed confidence in Dr Benjamin Laniyi’s ability to reposition the Centre for greater impact, citing her experience, visionary leadership, passion, and dedication to the development of women, especially those at the grassroots.

According to the statement, women journalists in the FCT are optimistic that the new leadership will help amplify the voices of women and girls, promote gender-sensitive policies, and advance programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of women nationwide.

NAWOJ FCT further expressed readiness to collaborate with the Centre in promoting advocacy, awareness creation, capacity building, and media visibility for issues affecting women and children in the FCT.

The association added that it believed that the Centre would continue to serve as a beacon of hope, empowerment, innovation, and transformation for Nigerian women under the new leadership.

NAWOJ FCT also prayed for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance for the Director-General and members of the Governing Council as they undertake their national assignment.
