The scramble for elective tickets on the platform of the Labour Party intensified as prominent political figures and aspirants from across the country besieged the party’s National Secretariat to obtain nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among the high-profile aspirants who picked up forms were former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, seeking to contest for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat, and former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, who is aspiring for the governorship of Adamawa State.
The development signalled growing momentum within the Labour Party as aspirants from both the Northern and Southern regions continue to align with the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking shortly after obtaining his nomination form, the former minister of information, Labaran Maku commended the party leadership for what he described as a transparent and credible process, expressing confidence in the Labour Party’s electoral strength nationwide.
“The Labour Party has won the confidence and support of Nigerians, and I am convinced that the party will emerge victorious in the next general election,” Maku stated.
He said the party had become a strong political force in several states, particularly in Nasarawa State and across the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, where according to him, supporters remain determined to ensure victory for the party.
Also speaking, the former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, praised the growing popularity of the Labour Party and commended the National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, for providing leadership that has repositioned the party.
The former senator expressed optimism about the party’s chances in Adamawa State and across the North-East region in the forthcoming elections.
The rush for nomination forms comes amid increasing political realignments and consultations by major political actors ahead of the 2027 general election, with parties intensifying preparations to strengthen their structures nationwide.
