All Political Parties Can Access Eagle Square, ADC Claims Baseless — Wike

todayApril 13, 2026

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has declared that Eagle Square is open to all political parties, dismissing ADC’s allegations of denial, as baseless and misleading.

Wike stated who this on Monday during an inspection of ongoing projects across Abuja, insisted that no political group would be denied access to the venue, once they follow due process and paid the required fees.

“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to. If it is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy,” Wike said.

The Minister clarified that access to Eagle Square is neither selective nor political, but strictly administrative.

According to him, any interested group must submit a formal request through the appropriate channel and pay the stipulated fees.

“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to the Abuja Investments Company Limited. When the All Progressives Congress (APC) used the venue and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) used the Stadium Velodrome, they complied with the process. We do not deny anyone access if the rules are followed,” he added.

Wike further explained that while Eagle Square is managed through the Abuja Investments Company Limited, the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome falls under the jurisdiction of the National Sports Commission, underscoring the importance of following the correct administrative procedures for each facility.

Beyond politics, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of ongoing works, revealing that major road projects are nearing completion.

“The contractors have assured us that road works will be completed by May 15, while streetlight installations will be finalised before the end of May,” he said.

At Gaduwa, Wike disclosed that he had directed the installation of protective mesh to safeguard road corridors from encroachment, while streetlight projects continue to advance steadily.

He also announced plans to relocate traders from the Apo Mechanic Village, to a purpose-built facility in Wassa, aimed at improving their working conditions.

“This project is aimed at improving the working conditions of artisans and fulfilling long-standing promises to the informal sector,” he stated.

Addressing concerns over the Kugbo Bus Terminal, the Minister dismissed reports of a structural collapse, attributing the incident to a natural occurrence.

“The terminal did not collapse. The structure is intact. What happened was that strong winds blew off parts of the roof. Repairs are ongoing,” Wike said,

The Minister also attributed the steady progress of projects in the FCT to strong collaboration between the government and contractors, backed by prompt payment of contractual obligations.
