The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reaffirmed that Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe remains its National Chairman as no court judgment has removed him from office.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, in Abuja.
The statement says reports being circulated by the expelled former Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, are false and meant to mislead the public.
It explains that the recent Court of Appeal judgments on the Ekiti Governorship primary were strictly about the conduct of the primaries and had nothing to do with the Party’s national leadership.
The statement clarifies that the Court of Appeal did not mention or recognise the expelled former Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, in its judgment.
It adds that Gabam’s attempt to join the case was dismissed by the court, which further held that the leadership of political parties is an internal matter outside the jurisdiction of the courts.
According to the statement Gabam remains expelled from the Party following his suspension and removal for financial misconduct, a decision ratified by the National Executive Committee and monitored by INEC.
It urges members and the public to disregard any misleading claims, assuring that SDP remains stable and focused on strengthening its structures, mobilising members nationwide, and preparing credible candidates for the 2027 elections.
